Subcommittee for the Stability of Steel Structures

Subcommittee Chairman: UETANI, Koji

Investigate the researches and technologies concerning buckling of steel structures in view of performance based design. Revise the`Recommendations for Stability Design of Steel Structures', if necessary. Propose a method for buckling analysis and design that can comprehensively incorporate interaction of member and global buckling modes.

Subcommittee on Steel Connections

Subcommittee Chairman: NAKASHIMA, Masayoshi

The subcommittee is to work on identification of design considerations to be included in the design of steel connections and aims at strengthening and modifying the Guideline for Design of Steel Connections published in 2001. It also is to work on survey of connection designs adopted in other countries, and cross-examine the similarities and differences with the current Japanese designs.

Subcommittee on Steel Materials

Subcommittee Chairman: NAKAGOMI, Tadao

To review, correlate, to develop information and to promote research on steel materials ; to explain the relationships of material properties and structural behaviors ; to develop a state-of-art report that includes recommendations on design.

Subcommittee for the global environmental issues in Steel Structures

Subcommittee Chairman: IWATA, Mamoru

The subcommittee studies global environmental issues in the field of steel structures. The aim of the task is to clarify the concept and what should be done on global environmental burden reduction in the steel structural design on buildings. The subcommittee will collect some of papers and data, and publish them in an enlightening book form.

Subcommittee of the Deformation Limit Design of Steel Structures

Subcommitee Chairman: KUWAMURA, Hitoshi

The major objective of this sub-commitee is to establish deformation limits of steel structures for the limit state design on safety, repair, damage, and service. In that study, non-structural members and facilities as well as structural skeletons are included. It is expected that a design guideline will be proposed as a final goal.
